Introduction
Hungary joined the GLOBE Program with 25 high schools in 1999. Two government ministries have been supporting the Program since its inception: the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment.

The most significant event for the GLOBE Program in Hungary in the 2004-2005 year has been the continuation of the Project after the first 5 years.

Both ministries have confirmed their intention to lend their support to the Program, recognising its positive effect upon world views and the importance of its theme.

School Participation
Over the past one year, our 25 participating secondary schools have been joined by another 2 schools. Our member schools are all enthusiastic about the Program, with different activities though. Some make measurements with unflagging enthusiasm and send the data continually to the data base. Others excel in scientific research, contributing outstanding essays to student's competitions announced by our experts. Some of our schools lay stress on a positive effect on world views, seeking to popularize the concepts of environmental education among their fellow students, their families and their fellow residents. Others create paintings, drawings, artistic photos or write poems or short stories for the various competitions.

Congratulations!
Although there is no competition in reporting GLOBE data, it is proper to thank all the Schools for their successful contributions. Please refer to "SEARCH PARAMETER SUMMARY" at www.globe.gov. In this respect, the table has been truncated to 50 entries. Accordingly, four of our participating schools came between the 1st and the 13th places. As to the quantity of measurements, the international list is topped by the Szentendrei Ferences Gimnázium, the Secondary Grammar School of the Franciscan Order in Szentendre. The Bibó István Gimnázium in Kiskunhalas finished 8th, the Gábor Áron Gimnázium in Karcag came 11th, and the Bocskai István Gimnázium in Biharkeresztes finished 13th. They all deserve our congratulations. We are proud of their diligence and persistence.

Teacher Training Workshops
Our GLOBE teachers participate in training sessions every year. This year's training course was held at Eötvös Lóránd University in Budapest. Our experts are not only familiar with the Basic GLOBE Program, but they pay great attention to GLOBE's new scientific improvements, imparting knowledge in this regard to our participating teachers. Our teachers attend lectures of an academic nature, perform field and computer science practices in an attempt to enhance their knowledge.

Special Projects and Events
Synchronicity Day is especially important for our GLOBE students who perform coordinated measurements in the fields of meteorology, botany and hydrochemistry. It means that all our 25 participating GLOBE schools conduct the same measurements at the same time, so the readings are comparable. The phenomena to be measured are compiled by GLOBE's Hungarian experts who also summarize the results at GLOBE's National Head Office in Hungary.

Students' Competitions
We regularly announce our student's competitions that attract a large number of applications. In addition to the traditional protocols like meteorology, hydrochemistry and biology, art is becoming more and more popular. Most applications are made in the field of art, photography and literature.

Summer Camps
Each year we hold our summer camps for those concerned on a lovely island on the Danube river. During the one-week camp, our students ride a canoe and visit the neighboring islands on the Danube, performing usual measurements. They give an account of their experiences by writing reports.

GLOBE Games, Prague
In 2005, our team joined GLOBE Games in the Czech Republic. The students and teacher of the Bibó István Gimnázium in Kiskunhalas have extraordinarily positive experiences regarding the event.

Objectives
Our future objective is to extend the range of participating schools in Hungary. We face the challenge of keeping alive the interest and enthusiasm of our teams. We are planning to stage a major conference this autumn with a view to evaluating and grading the student's competitions, teachers and students lecturing on their activities, and our experts conducting further training for them.

The Hungarian GLOBE Homepage
Aided by our computer science professional, we have developed our own Hungarian GLOBE website where we supply our teams with up-to-date information on the student's applications and artworks, etc. Please feel free to visit this website at http://globe.superweb.hu.
